La Casa del Limonero is a lovely, spacious old house in the heart of Almoharín in the Sierra de Montanchez.

The house faces south and is on two floors.

Downstairs you will find:

  1. •a hall in the traditional Spanish style

  2. •a modern, fully equipped kitchen/diner with folding doors to the patio

  3. •a spacious, private patio with flowers and a lemon tree

• a study/sitting room with wood-burning stove

• a bedroom with a double bed and adjoining dressing room

  1. •a laundry area with a washing machine

  2. •a shower room with toilet, bidet, basin and shower


Upstairs there is:

• a huge salon with wood-burning stove

• a large double bedroom

  1. •a bathroom with toilet, bidet, basin, two showers and a bath

  2. •a small balcony over-looking the street


La Casa del Limonero sleeps four (two couples). It is self-catering but we provide bed linen and towels with logs for the wood-burning stove in the winter. There are maps, guide books, board games and eclectic holiday reading. Parking is in the street directly opposite the house. There is no internet but there’s a free wi-fi service at El Bulivar, 5 minutes walk away.


€50 per couple* per night regardless of time of year.

Minimum stay three nights.


* If you book the house for two people you get the whole house. You do not get to share with another two people you have never met. This is not a Casa Rural but our own town house and we only let it, occasionally, to nice people who love walking — people like you!


Almoharín has plenty of shops, two banks with cash points, several bars and restaurants, coffee shops, a garage, a post office, a public telephone and a swimming pool (open June to September). There is a market in the square every Tuesday morning. Almoharín is on a bus route to Miajadas and Cáceres with bus and train links beyond.

La Casa de los Higos is a small modern house tucked into the edge of Eljas in the western Sierra de Gata. The house has views to the south and is on one floor.

You will find:

  1. •a walled patio

  2. •a small entrance hall

  3. •a good-sized kitchen with gas cooker, ample cupboards and worktops, microwave fridge, sink, etc.

  4. •a south-facing salon with sofa bed, dining area and wood burning stove

  5. •a balcony partly shaded by fig trees with extensive views south to the Sierra de Olalla

• a twin bedroom with generous storage space

  1. •a bathroom with bath/shower, toilet, bidet, basin and washing machine

  2. •a small private garden shaded by fig trees

  3. •an undercroft — but it is kept locked for storage


La Casa de los Higos sleeps two. It is comfortable self-catering accommodation perfect for independent walkers. We provide bed linen, plenty of towels and logs for the wood-burning stove in the winter. There are maps, guide books and eclectic holiday reading. Parking is in the small square around the corner. There is no vehicle access to the house as the streets are tiny and big cars are very difficult here.


€35 per night regardless of time of year. Minimum stay three nights.


Eljas is a hill-top village right in the middle of the most fantastic walking country imaginable. It has  shops, a bank with international cash point, several bars and coffee shops, a public telephone and a natural pool plus a swimming pool (open June to September). There is free wi-fi internet access at U Barruquiñu in the main street just below the plaza. There is a market in the main street every Tuesday morning. Eljas is on a bus route to Moreleja and beyond to Cáceres. Both neighbouring villages of Valverde del Fresno and San Martín de Trevejo are within easy walking distance.
